Description

Uniroid is used for the treatment of haemorrhoids. Uniroid has two active ingredients – hydrocortisone and cinchocaine. Hydrocortisone is an anti-inflammatory medication for the relief of itching, while cinchocaine is a local anaesthetic.

Uniroid is prescribed by a doctor in the treatment of haemorrhoids and other anal discomforts, such as tears and fissures. Haemorrhoids can cause problems such as pain and itching in or around the anal region, and in some cases, bright red in the stool. A haemorrhoid that protrudes from the anus is called external haemorrhoids. Haemorrhoids are generally harmless but they can also cause a great deal of discomfort.

Haemorrhoids are generally harmless but cause a great deal of discomfort. Uniroid helps in the alleviation of the uncomfortable symptoms of haemorrhoids and helps in speeding up the process of healing.

The main benefit of using Uniroid is the relief it provides to the discomfort caused by haemorrhoids.

Uniroid is available in the forms of an ointment and a suppository. Suppositories are used for the treatment of internal haemorrhoids and are inserted into the rectum according to the directions on the package leaflet.

Uniroid ointment should be applied thinly to the affected area around the anus. If needed, you can apply the ointment deep into the rectum by using the applicator that comes with the product. Read the package leaflet for information on the use of the applicator.

The following are the steps to take when applying Uniroid ointment:

  • Thoroughly but gently wash the area around the anus with water, then pat it dry using cotton wool.
  • Using a finger, spread on the painful area a little bit of the ointment. Do not rub the ointment in the area. on the painful area without rubbing. The use of toilet paper is not recommended after the application.

The ointment may be used internally using a nozzle applicator which is provided with the product. Insert the applicator’s nozzle as far as you can go and squeeze gently the tube holding it on its lower end while withdrawing.

You should always be clean the applicator’s nozzle with warm, soapy water before and after each use.

The ointment may be used separately or concurrently with the suppositories.

Do not apply a dressing after using the ointment because it can increase the risk of an allergic reaction.

If you happen to apply more ointment than necessary, make sure to wipe off the excess ointment using cotton wool. If too much ointment has been accidentally inserted, or if you or someone else swallow it, tell your doctor immediately or go to the nearest emergency room. Take the ointment tube with you so that the healthcare professionals can see the product that you have taken.

If you forget your dose of Uniroid, apply it as soon as you remember except when it is too close to your next regular dose. In that case, just skip the missed dose and proceed with your next regular dose. There is no need of doubling the dose as a makeup for the missed one.

For adults, elderly, and children over 12 years old: Apply the ointment twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, and after each bowel movement unless your doctor has directed you otherwise.

Do not apply the ointment for longer than 7 days. If your condition does not improve, contact your doctor.

For children under 12 years old:  Uniroid is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age.
